  • Margaret Kochan

    American, International and Cardio Ballroom, Argentine Tango, West Coast Swing, Country & Western

    Margaret (Malgorzata) Kochan has been teaching ballroom dancing since 1991. In Poland, she received her training from the Academy of Physical Education in Krakow, and the School of Arts and Culture, in Warsaw. In the US, she earned an Advanced Ballroom Teaching Certification from Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Inc.

    She continues to refine her dancing and teaching skills, working with world class performers and coaches; Michael Mead, Toni Redpath, Jim and Jenell Maranto, Felipe and Carolina Telona, Christy Cote’ and George Garcia, Michael Kiehm and Sue Fries to name a few.

    Margaret’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for dancing led her to establish A Dance to Remember studio in Rockwall, Texas in 2008. As the premier Ballroom Dance studio in the greater Rockwall area, A Dance to Remember provides a friendly, comfortable environment for everyone to learn, enjoy, and experience the wonderful world of dancing.

    Affectionately known as Dr. Dance, a title given to her by her students, Margaret has taught over 1000 local dancers since she moved to Texas in 1999. She and her students have performed at events throughout the greater Rockwall and Dallas/Fort Worth area. Margaret served five years as the principal coach and advisor to the Rockwall County Alliance for the Arts in their primary fundraiser, Dancing with the Stars. She has been the choreographer for the Rockwall Chapter of the National Charity League - Annual Debutante Ball, designing and teaching a Father-Daughter Senior Waltz Presentation since 2009. Margaret and her dance partner, Johnny Tan, have performed with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, Angels of Dance Annual Gala benefiting the Susan G Komen for the Cure, Children’s Health System, and Women In Need, Inc., to name a few.

    In the field of academia, Margaret taught for 4 years at the Littlest Angels pre-school program. She was a physical education and dance teacher at Lakeland Preparatory Academy in Quinlan and at Poetry Christian Academy in Poetry, Texas.

    Margaret takes great pride in her profession and strives to adjust her teaching technique to best address the needs of each student she has a privilege to work with. Utilizing her Physical Education training she helps to condition her students’ bodies for rigorous dance training. Many dancers testify that because of the dance classes their stamina, coordination, flexibility and balance have improved greatly. Remembering the importance of joy that dancing brings to all of her customers, Margaret emphasizes the aspect of fun and relaxation that lessons and parties offer. Strengthening the sense of the customers’ confidence Margaret and the ADTR studio offer various performing opportunities. Margaret and her staff love to remind their students that if learning is their passion, then teaching them is theirs.

  • Johnny Tan

    Ballroom: Group, Private

    Johnny Tan has been a ballroom dancer since 2000 and teaches private and group lessons since 2005. He trained with the late Betty Tamas, a distinguished ballroom dance instructor in Baton Rouge. In Dallas, he received training from world champions Gocha Cherkoev and Shorena Gachechiladze. Johnny and his dance partner, Margaret Kochan, have performed with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, Angels of Dance Annual Gala benefiting the Susan G Komen for the Cure, Children's Health System, and Women In Need, Inc., to name a few. According to Johnny, "Dancing with heart and passion creates a lifetime of bliss in a three-and-a-half-minute song."

He also served his community as chairman of the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitor Bureau in 2001, commissioner of the Baton Rouge Sister Cities Commission in 2000, chairman of the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Committee in 1998, chairman of “Project Baton Rouge 2020—a Vision of Opportunity with a World of Possibility,” in 1997, and president of the Louisiana Restaurant Association Baton Rouge Chapter in 1995.   • Mercedes Granados

    Mercedes Granados began her flamenco training with the Conte de Loyo Dance Company in 1995 performing with the academy until 1998. Mercedes continued to study the beautiful art of flamenco by traveling to Seville, Spain and Jerez de la Frontera. In Spain, she participated in intense flamenco workshops from the very best Pilar Ortega, Monolo Marin, and Maria Jose Franco.  

    In 2002, Mercedes, and her husband Robert founded Manzanilla Flamenca. They performed with musicians and artist from around the metropolitan area and around the world. Mercedes currently teaches flamenco at a “Dance to Remember Ballroom Dance Studio” in Rockwall Texas. Each year her family travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Flamenco Festival for workshops and classes to immerse and learn more of the artistry of flamenco.

    This year, Mercedes studied with Ana Salazar a world renowned singer and dancer, to learn the importance of song and dance. 

  • Robert Granados

    Robert Granados began his studies in 1992 in Dallas with the Conte de Loyo Dance Academy.  He also attended workshops with flamenco artist such as Omayra Amaya and Felipe Sanchez. Robert, along with Mercedes and the ADTR Flamenco Performing Team, premiered this interesting dance style fusion at the Annual USA Dance Dallas 2014 Showcase. To polish his mastery of Flamenco, Robert traveled to Seville, Spain. Here he participated in classes with Javier Baron. He also visited Jerez de La Frontera and took advance workshops with Antonio”El Pipa”  

    Each year Robert travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico  for the Festival de Flamenco here he has taken workshops with Farruquito and Marco Flores learning new techniques and choreographies. Robert teaches at “A Dance to Remember” Dance studio in Rockwall. Robert, along with Mercedes and the ADTR Flamenco Performing Team, premiered this interesting dance style fusion at the Annual USA Dance Dallas 2014 Showcase.
